Third Page of Photographs of Gervald Frykman

This photograph shows Gervald Frykman driving the "Flying Scotsman" in Birmingham in late 1994.  The weather was foul, but it was hot on the foot-plate!   Shortly after this magnificent experience, the "Flying Scotsman" was holed up, rusty, in a shed, awaiting restoration.  It was announced in May 1999 that the restoration was complete, but the old lady now looks quite different:

We never ordered copies of this photograph of the Frykman family, taken  in 1961.   My mother made sure that my father didn't keep his moustache for too long...   We have never quite understood why my mother chose the too-similar names Gerard (right), Gervais (left) and Gervald for her three sons.

A minor part - Hawles - in a play by Maida Stanier - "The Expulsion" - at Magdalen College School, Oxford  in 1967.  I was supposed to be standing on my dignity.......  The setting was the political upheaval in the late seventeenth century, when Magdalen College defied the King in order to elect its own President.

It was hard work trying to keep the punt just by this weir on the River Cherwell in Oxford in 1974.  The idea was to make it look as if I had just sailed down it.

Part of the serious business of being at university was being an Academical Clerk (choral scholar) of Magdalen College, Oxford.  It was quite dark in the cloisters in 1974...

In the summer of 1998 the Frykman family visited Sweden - Gervald's fifth visit, but the first for Kathryn and the girls.  Near the town of Uddevalla they stayed in the totally unmodernised 19th century hunting lodge pictured here.  Trollgild is now owned by the Thorburn-Macfie Släktföreningen, and members of the family can hire it extremely cheaply.  No running water.  No toilet.  No electricity.   Everybody who has stayed there has signed on the wooden walls.

At the back we have Lucy, Kathryn and Gervald.  At the front we have, on the left, Eleanor, and, sitting, Briony and Gervald's aunt Margareta Frykman.  Finally, on the right, is Gervald's half-sister Kristina Hasselblad.

We found Margareta's first signature on the wall, dating from 1933.

Here are Eleanor, Kathryn, Lucy and Briony Frykman at Cardigan Bay, Pembrokeshire in the summer of 1996 (not forgetting the dog, Bonnie).  Gervald was behind the camera for once.
